3 Modifications of Falcons Logo
Craft: When modifying these logos I wanted to make them simple and more modern. To create the three logos that I chose above, I mainly used the pen tool and direct selection tool, and layers. The Pringles logo and Falcon's logo did require me to use the eclipse tool to make the circles and ovals. I also used the color picker tool to see which color combinations went best together.
Composition and Concept: The second logo that I redesigned for Chicago Fire was probably the hardest one. I was trying to make it look like an actual soccer team logo. I you were to look to logo without knowing it actually belonged to a soccer team, you would have no idea it did. I started off by tracing a drawing a regular soccer crest with the pen. Then I created the space in which I put the name Fire. I had a bit of trouble aligning the top and bottom of this shape but it worked out. I then took images of Chicago flag along with a soccer ball and traced them within the logo. Then I noticed that the logo wasn't standing out from the white space so I drew a red border for it. As far as colors I tried to stay with the colors that Chicago Fire is associated with. To put the finshing touch I put a star at the top of the logo to represent the championship that they won. This is something that is very common in soccer logos.
For the second variation of the Pringles logo I was trying to do it as some and modern as possible. The original logo seems a bit outdated to me. I started off by keeping the head. It is something that many would associate the brand with. I did keep the eyes and mustache but I got rid of the hair and bowtie. I also decided to give it the color of a Pringles chip. As for the letters I felt it needed more modern ones. I decided to use the ones I had created in week 3. Once I put the letters in place, I gave them a black border. In order to make them stand out more, I made the letters white. I think this would help the viewer notice the name more. This simple contrast really helps the name stand out. Overall I think I achieved my goal of making it more simple and modern.
The third modification of the Falcon's logo had the same concept...make it simpler and more modern. I chose to do this modication as a circular logo, so with the use of the eclipse tool. I created two circles. The outer one would become a black border. Afterwards I was having trouble deciding how to design the inside. I then place the image of the original logo under the circles using the layers tool and I traced the logo onto it. I decided to trace the first half because otherwise it would just be the same logo inside of a circle. After I finished tracing it I selcted it and rotated it a little bit which ended up making me modify the points in order the make the trace fit in the circle. Once I was done with that, I began playing with color combinations with the main ones always being black and red. When I came upon this one I really liked it because it looked cool and modern. I tried incorporating grey and white which are colors that are used in the original logo but I could not find where to actually put them. The simple red and black worked well and helped me achieve my goal of giving it a more modern look.
